This week I have been at the beach and been staying at home and skateboarding a lot. This week at the beach I have gotten an opportunity to have a long place to skate not like at my house where I have a short driveway. This has made me get better at actually being able to balance and ride for a long period of time. I found out pretty soon that it is actually harder than it looks. My legs were sore from the first day of riding. Riding this much and for long periods of time has increased my balance. Being able to balance easier will make it much easier for me to learn tricks.

This week has been very eventful. First of all the coronavirus has made a lot of things difficult for everyone. Since I have been stuck inside all day I have gotten a lot of motivation to go out and be active. The most beneficial way for me to do this is to skateboard. This gets me active while I am doing school work. I also broke my second board now. I had to take the wheels off of this one and put it on the old one so I now have a very makeshift looking board. Despite these challenges, I have gotten a lot better at doing my ollie and just riding in general. I have taken videos of me and watched them over and over to see what I am doing right, and what I am doing wrong. This has led me to improve my riding and ollie. These upcoming weeks will be beneficial to me as I try to get better. Max
This second week really proved to me how hard this challenge will be. I think it is definitely possible for me to learn to skate well by the end of this 12 weeks. This week I mainly focused on learning to do an ollie. This trick is the base for almost all other tricks, so it is important that I learn this trick first and perfect it. I have recorded myself and watched the videos to see what I'm doing wrong and what I am doing right. By doing this it is making it easy for me to try to perfect the ollie. As we were planning for our project before this first week, we realized that we probably need a skateboard to do this project. We decided that we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a nice skateboard because we think that a cheap one will be able to do the job. We each both bought the same skateboard and they were only fifteen dollars. I (Max) had my difficulty with skateboards already as I left my skateboard behind my sister's car and it was run over and had to buy a new one.
This first week consisted of a lot of experimenting. We watched a lot of videos on easy tricks to learn on the skateboard. We also took videos of us trying out some of these tricks, which was a lot harder than expected. These tricks will take multiple weeks to learn and even longer to perfect. The videos we take will be needed to compare to our progress videos each week. The ollie is the first beginner trick we are going to learn. An ollie is a trick where the rider and the board leap into the air without using your hands. An ollie is done by popping down on one side of the board while lifting up with the other foot. When the board is in the air the foot that wasn't used to pop the board is used to level the board out so it lands evenly. The ollie is a base point for almost all tricks while skateboarding, so it is important to learn. This trick is one of the easier tricks to learn while skateboarding, but it still is fairly difficult. So it will take a while to learn this trick. |
