This week I was back at the beach and got a lot of practice getting comfortable on my board. I definitely see improvement from the last time I was at the beach. I am able to go much faster and I'm still able to balance very well. I have started to attempt doing a kickflip, but it is not going very well. A kickflip is where you pop you board up and slide your foot off the top to make it spin upside down and back and you land back on the board. This is move is impossible if you can't do an ollie. You have to be able to ollie pretty high. I have attempted to do this move and the board always lands upside down. This usually means that I am not getting my ollie high enough. So I don't know if I will be able to do a kickflip by the end of these twelve weeks but I will try my hardest. Max
This quarantine has put a lot of time on our hands. It is also going to affect how we do our final video. We will have to work online only to communicate on what we should put in the video and sending videos to each other. We haven't been able to get together during this quarantine yet. We are trying to get together and go to the Lexington Skate Park. This would really put our skills to the test on how much we have learned. We also could do challenges against each other on who has gotten the best. I have been trying to jump off a small ledge at my house doing an ollie. This has made me get better at doing an ollie on the move. I have been wearing knee pads and a helmet because I could get hurt. I will update on how my progress continues on that project. Max
This week I have been focusing on balance again and turning. Balance is the main thing you should get down before you can do tricks and anything else. I am starting to be able to do an ollie on the move. This is a good start to doing a kick flip. I don't know if I will be able to do a kick flip by the end of these 12 weeks. I am getting much more balance on my board. Hopefully I will be able to do a kick flip by the end though. Max
I have been able to skateboard a lot more because of the quarantine. I drove over to my grandparents house to skateboard down their hill. It is very steep and should have understood I'm not very advanced in skateboarding yet. I still went down the hill and proceeded to fall on my butt. Nothing serious just scratched my elbow. I now wear elbow pads and knee pads when I do stuff like that. Even doing the tricks at my house have been kind of dangerous. I have twisted my ankles a lot lately. I am getting much better at doing an ollie. Being able to do any other kind of trick by the end of this project is going to be very hard. Max
Being at the beach this past week has helped me be able to get comfortable riding for longer than usual. I had a long flat road that not many cars rode on so it was safe for me to ride around on. This increased my balance and got me comfortable on my board. The tricks are the harder part of this project. I feel like i'm doing them right, but they don't produce the same results as the professionals. I know this will come with time as I continue to practice, but it is hard. Hopefully by the end of the 12 weeks I can do all of the tricks that I want. Max
This week I have been at the beach and been staying at home and skateboarding a lot. This week at the beach I have gotten an opportunity to have a long place to skate not like at my house where I have a short driveway. This has made me get better at actually being able to balance and ride for a long period of time. I found out pretty soon that it is actually harder than it looks. My legs were sore from the first day of riding. Riding this much and for long periods of time has increased my balance. Being able to balance easier will make it much easier for me to learn tricks. This week has been very eventful. First of all the coronavirus has made a lot of things difficult for everyone. Since I have been stuck inside all day I have gotten a lot of motivation to go out and be active. The most beneficial way for me to do this is to skateboard. This gets me active while I am doing school work. I also broke my second board now. I had to take the wheels off of this one and put it on the old one so I now have a very makeshift looking board. Despite these challenges, I have gotten a lot better at doing my ollie and just riding in general. I have taken videos of me and watched them over and over to see what I am doing right, and what I am doing wrong. This has led me to improve my riding and ollie. These upcoming weeks will be beneficial to me as I try to get better. Max
This second week really proved to me how hard this challenge will be. I think it is definitely possible for me to learn to skate well by the end of this 12 weeks. This week I mainly focused on learning to do an ollie. This trick is the base for almost all other tricks, so it is important that I learn this trick first and perfect it. I have recorded myself and watched the videos to see what I'm doing wrong and what I am doing right. By doing this it is making it easy for me to try to perfect the ollie. |
